Therapy for Anxiety and Phobias

“Anxiety is Kicking My Ass”

Scared and worried, your mind won’t shut off, and stress only makes things worse.

Like a tidal wave, anxiety floods over you and grips you so tight that every cell in your body is immobilized.

Heart pounding and barely able to speak – time seems to speed up and slow down all at once simultaneously.

You feel like a prisoner of your brain, which is no way to live.

Gripped by Fear

“My thoughts race 100 miles a minute. I can’t function anymore. It’s gut-wrenching.”

“I feel physically paralyzed and can’t do anything. Then, I feel like shit for not doing anything. That causes a panic attack. And then, I really feel paralyzed and can’t do anything. It’s maddening.”

“I feel like I’m in a horror movie being chased by something and can’t get away.”

“I try to fight it and fail every time. It feels like something else I can’t do right and makes me more anxious.”

“When I’m at work, someone will say or do something—not include me, ignore my opinion, whatever—and I feel it coming on. I’m always worried I’ll start crying. I become shaky, feel like I’m suffocating, and just want to hide. But the worst is when it comes on for no reason at all.”

Frustrated and Exhausted

Unable to stop worrying, over-thinking, and over-analyzing, you question everything in your life.

Even on the best of days, you brace yourself for something terrible to happen.

It feels like you have no control over your emotions and you’re in constant fight-or-flight mode.

Tired of trying, you want a break.

Worrying Never Stops

“My sleep is crap. I spend the entire night thinking about all these ‘What ifs.’ It’s like a little voice in the back of my mind going over every possible thing that could go wrong.”

“I spend countless hours worried about arguments I had years ago, feel guilty about things I may or may not have done, wonder what someone thought about me, and feel terrible about myself.”

“I always feel like I’m in trouble or about to get in trouble.”

“I wake up early every morning to check my email because I’m worried about missing something. But then, I sit there staring at my inbox the whole time, not wanting to open anything because I think it will be bad news.”

Your Life Is Not Your Own

It feels like you’re going crazy.

No amount of logic seems to be able to stop the war in your head.

Anxiety uses your deepest insecurities against you and leaves you feeling like a failure.

You shrink into yourself, worried that others can see what’s going on.

It gets in the way of your relationships and keeps you from living fully.

Anxiety Takes a Toll

“My self-esteem is shot. I feel nervous and sick to my stomach all the time. Anxiety takes away so much…family, friends, opportunities—my life.”

“It just makes me irritable. For days, my chest will be tight and my throat will close up. I can’t stand to be around anyone.”

“I feel trapped in my head and can’t focus on anything else. It really affects my marriage and ability to be present with my kids.”

“I know it doesn’t make sense. Sometimes everything causes me anxiety, and sometimes nothing causes it. It feels like my world is falling apart. My mind is never quiet.”

When the Mind Plays Tricks…

Under ordinary circumstances, anxiety is a normal part of life that motivates us to deal with challenges.

The problem is that our brain sometimes keeps experiencing it in excess, even though there’s no real threat around. But it sure feels real.

It’s like someone flipped a switch, and we end up constantly searching for danger in order to avoid getting hurt since we think we couldn’t possibly cope. But that just ends up hurting us more in the long run and makes us feel worse.

Fear becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Relief from Anxiety and Phobias

You thought you could just live with your anxiety, but the reality is that anxiety lives with you if you don’t treat it appropriately.

Anxiety takes over your world, leaving you feeling miserable and alone, devastating different aspects of your life.

Worry and anxiety are often manifested in conditions, such as generalized anxiety disorder, specific phobias, panic disorder and agoraphobia, social anxiety disorder, and more.

I have extensive training in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), highly effective evidence-based methods for treating excessive worry, anxiety, and phobias.

I also use Virtual Reality Therapy (VRT) focused on exposure and response prevention (EX/RP), mindfulness, and relaxation skills training so that you experience fast and lasting relief.
